Colourants can be added to glazes to get the desired coloured effects. Unlike stains, colourants react differently in each firing. A wide spectrum of colours can be achieved by mixing them with other colourants, opacifiers & stains.
Name: Cobalt Carbonate (CoCO3)
Appearance Colour: Lavender
Form: Powder, Inorganic Compound
Recommended Usage:
- In Slips: 0.25%-2%
- In Glazes: 0.25%-1%
Output Colour: Shades of vibrant blue. If mixed in the proper proportions with iron and manganese, intense blacks can be achieved. If mixed with magnesium and used as glaze, it can produce tones of red/purple in oxidation/reduction firings. On mixing it with white clay bodies for slips can result in various shades of blue.
Stability: Relatively stable in comparison to other colours & opacifiers
Additional Information: Cobalt carbonate gives a weaker colour when compared to cobalt oxide (Co3O4).
Caution: In its powdered form, cobalt carbonate can cause skin, eye and/or respiratory system irritation. Please use proper precautions, including protective coverings, when working with this substance. Keep out of the reach of children.
Note: Owing to the nature of ceramic making process and the varied combinations of elements, we request the user to always test their formulations before bulk production/purchase. It is for the user to satisfy that the product meets their requirements.
