Sodium Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (C.M.C.) (Ceramic Glazing Aid)

CMC is used in ceramics to harden unfired ceramic glazes and underglazes. CMC additions lead to better adherence to the body, slower drying and safer handling of the ware before firing. It also reduces the drying shrinkage and enables multi-layer applications without flaking or cracking. In dipping glazes, CMC also acts as a suspending agent. CMC is an important addition to the underglaze mixes that are applied by stamping or brushing.
